Head Fake

Just remember I said this was going to be a rollercoaster...

Around 6:30 this morning, the ambulance arrived at Mom & Dad's house due to some hyperventilation on Dad's part. After leaving the safe hospital womb, Dad had trouble sleeping. He was just a little anxious about Mom waking him up for meds during the night, getting the medication right (they are on a very strict regimen), and sleeping without being under the watchful eye of the doctors and nurses.

His temperature and blood pressure were both fluctuating quite a bit and it seems like nerves just kicked in and caused some panic. Mom dialed 9-1-1 and before they knew it, 6 paramedics from the Coppell Fire Department were all in the master bedroom with them. As a note of encouragement, 2 of the guys had been there for the original incident and were glad that things had worked out in Dad's favor.

The rest of the team (oh yes, did I forget to mention that two firetrucks accompanied the crew...with their sirens off, mercifully) checked his vitals and were very reassuring that this kind of episode is very normal for people returning home from the hospital after traumatic injuries.
Mom & Dad called Dr. Bidiwala who gently talked them through everything and reassured them that as long as Dad was pain free, he is okay right now. Mark generously spent his day off with Dad, just to be available. Dad was having some neck pain and other minor aches, which he's been told are par for the brain bleed.
Needless to say, the Special Guest Blogger will not be making his debut tonight...maybe tomorrow or later this week. However, he is reading his own blog now and continues to savor the words of laughter, love, and hope.

Tonight we are praying for:
*peace regarding the transition home
*sleep
*rest (comfortable calm during the daytime)

Psalm 29:11
The Lord will give strength to His people,
The Lord will bless his people with peace.

Even though in some ways it feels like a step back to have something like this happen, we are blessed for the reminder of our dependence on God in every situation...no matter how small. He is great to continually draw us to Himself...just a small glimpse of his love for us and desire for a relationship. We hope you feel drawn to Him, too.

Dear Chris and Carla,
This is an evening verse for you. "I will lie down and sleep in peace; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Ps. 4:8 (NIV) A friend introduced me to the term "stretcher bearers" - the ones who hold you up when you're in need. So let your "stretcher bearers" hold you up and you rest. Sleep well!

Love in Christ,
Nancy

When I saw how great Chris looked standing by the IV stand, I was reminded that both he and Carla still have bodies that look like those of teenagers! I was thrilled he could go home and am thankful that this scare with the paramedics was just that and not a complication.

We're all praying for you and I so appreciate this blog - how great to keep up to date on your progress.

Love, Barbara

Hi Chris & Carla,

Glad to hear you are home safe and sound! We were really concerned about the little scene outside this morning and prayed all day that you just had a scare. (Next time you want a homecoming party, just let us know -no need to call the fire engines to get our attention!!)

Hope your body and mind can relax now and start to heal.

Psalm 23: "The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack. In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me; you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name. Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage. You set a table before me as my enemies watch; you annoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Only goodness and love will pursue me all the days of my life; I will dwell in the house of the Lord for years to come."

God Bless,
Trish, Rick, Taylor & Sarah Dubey

Mr. Excitement, huh? I'm glad this episode was just nerves and nothing more. Hang in there bud. You are on the mend. I will pray for your sleep and peace of mind.

I love you!

Dear All..this morning's verse is most fitting, I think...
"He which hath begun a good work in you will perform [it] until the day of Jesus Christ." (Though I'm betting on full recovery a litte faster:):)

Again, Nicole, you relate the day's adventures in a unique and humorous way....I love the title "big boy toys"...and how GREAT that the Dr. was available to talk it through to conclusion!

Trusting that today gets C&C into a restful routine at home and continued healing. We'll keep praying, and checking the blog for updates...and thinking of you all often... Love Gwyne and Don

Chris! I'm so glad you're home, what a great step forward! And to be in the comforts of your own house is wonderful. I'm sorry to hear there was stress involved but hang in there, as my mom always says: this too, shall pass. (I think she got that from someone else :-) I think despite all the pain and fear and discomfort that came along with all of this, it's so nice to see how God uses your friends and family to absolutely envelope you in His love. Our whole faith family here on earth is such an amazing extension of Him and I'm blessed to have been able to watch it all. You and your family are so deeply loved. I can't begin to discribe how grateful to God I am for your spared (earthly) life and your returning health. I love you to bits. Keep on keepin on! We're all pulling and praying for you every day.

Chris and Carla,

It was so fun having lunch with y'all at Baylor when Chris was allowed his first "outing." We are praying for many more fun outings in the future. Our God is an awesome God who performs wonder after wonders. We are so grateful to Him who is able to do so much more than we can ever ask or imagine. May you rest in His everlasting arms knowing that there is no safer place to be than in His arms :)

Yours in Christ,

Julie and Jim

I take a day or two off (didn't receive an email saying the blogger had any news and didn't check on my own) and what do you do...freak out on us. Carla has "carried" you for so many years, made you look good, and covered up your many weaknesses and you still think she is not in control. From the first day we met in Virginia Beach in 1970 ? 1971 I knew then that you would need a little help "from your friends". Thank God for unconditional love. I love reading all the comments about how sweet, nice and lovely you are...but I am having a little difficulty understanding that they are speaking about you. Mostly what I remember is this stubborn, hard headed, sometimes ruthless man that had NO mercy. In spite of all this, God loves you and so do I. Sandra and I continue to pray for you snd Carla daily. We all go back a long way and God has always been there in each of our families. We shared with our Life Group this morning about how even though we don't see each other often how our relationship has always been there and when we are together its like we've never been apart. One of the things I share most about you is how everytime we talk on the phone (when you call me back) is when you or Carla always ask what you can pray about for us. It is a Chris/Carla trademark and one you can be proud of. (Don't think you are suppose to end a sentence with a preposition but I'm not sure they taught that at Texas Tech so you would probably not catch it.

You have always pressed on toward the goal to win the prize and to make sure others are there with you. You have and will continue to be an inspiration in my life.

Your friend always,
Wayne...Love you bud!
